3 Ways to Stay Safe in a Hot Tub

June 6, 2024

Hot tubs are wonderful contraptions designed to help you relax and keep you stress-free. According to the New York Post, sitting in a hot tub is almost as beneficial as going for a run! That's a lot of power in a tub. Something that we don't often consider is the safety practices that we have to follow when taking a soak in our favorite place from a local hot tub company. To keep you safe, here are three tips to follow when using a hot tub.

Pay Attention to Your Body

Getting into a hot tub is a great way to wind down after a long day. The relaxation, decrease in stress, and comfort provided to painful joints are all helpful points. However, if you stay in a hot tub too long, you'll find that your blood pressure can actually rise. If you start to feel dizzy, light-headed, or simply don't feel well, it's time to get out of the tub and cool off for a bit.

Watch the Heat

This is very important! If you are going to soak for more than 20 minutes, our team recommends that you decrease the temperature of your hot tub. Some people like to have their temperature set above 100 degrees Fahrenheit. If that is you, then you need to make sure you aren't soaking for very long. A great way to think about this is if you are going to stay in longer than the suggested time, decrease the temperature of your hot tub accordingly.

Be Careful With Prescriptions and Alcohol

While heat can be relaxing, it can also mix with other things in the body and create issues. Just like staying outside during the summer months, sitting in a hot tub can start to affect your body in negative ways. If you take certain medications or drink alcohol while in a hot tub, you'll find that the effects are increased. This can lead to impaired decision-making which can put yourself and others in danger.

Getting a hot tub from your local hot tub company is a great way to relax at the end of a hard day. However, something that you have to watch out for is the heat levels, whether you've had something to drink, and how your body feels.
